Why we do not use accessibility overlay widgets

Accessibility overlays inject JavaScript that attempts to patch problems at render time, but they do not fix the underlying HTML. Screen readers still encounter the same broken markup, and overlay products have themselves been the subject of accessibility complaints and lawsuits. We fix accessibility at the source code level so that every user, on every assistive technology, has a genuinely equivalent experience.

Our commitment

Accessibility is built in, not bolted on

Cummings Termite & Pest believes every visitor, including those who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or other assistive technologies, deserves the same access to our services as anyone else.

We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, which is the standard referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice as the accessibility benchmark for ADA Title III compliance. We run automated axe-core scans and conduct manual keyboard and screen reader testing as part of every significant code change.

Accessible features

  • Keyboard NavigationEvery interactive element (buttons, links, form fields, dropdowns, and accordions) is fully operable by keyboard alone. Tab order follows a logical reading sequence, and Escape closes all overlays and menus.
  • Screen Reader SupportARIA roles, labels, and live regions are used throughout so assistive technologies can announce page structure, form errors, navigation state, and dynamic content changes accurately.
  • Color ContrastAll text meets the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio: 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and UI components. This applies across the light cream body, the blue trust elements and CTAs, and the dark footer.
  • Visible Focus IndicatorsA high-visibility blue focus ring (3px, blue-600) is shown on every interactive element when navigating by keyboard. Mouse users see hover styles instead, keeping the interface clean.
  • Skip NavigationA "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass the navigation bar.
  • Form AccessibilityAll form fields have visible, programmatically associated labels. Required fields are marked. Validation errors are announced via ARIA live regions and focus is moved to the error summary.
  • Semantic HTMLPages use proper landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), a logical heading hierarchy (H1 per page, H2 for sections, H3 for cards), and semantic list and article elements.
  • Reduced MotionAll animations and transitions respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query. Users who have requested reduced motion see no animated effects.
  • Responsive and ZoomableContent remains readable and functional at 200% browser zoom and on viewport widths as narrow as 320px. No horizontal scrolling is required at standard zoom levels.
